In the meantime, here’s Dario’s interview:

1) What are your responsibilities at Circular Materials?
I am the Head of R&D at the company. Together with my team, I develop innovative solutions to optimize CM’s processes and related activities. To this end, I also manage purchases within my area of expertise, ensuring a direct link between the R&D department’s needs and the necessary investments. Moreover, I oversee the internal laboratory, analyzing data from our plants to provide valuable insights for both R&D and compliance with waste management regulations.

2) What was your educational background?
I earned a degree in Materials Science with a particular focus on organic-based materials. Following that, I collaborated with a pharmaceutical company through a work grant, developing an innovative continuous-flow process for the laboratory-scale synthesis of a drug. Later, during my PhD, I expanded my expertise to include inorganic chemistry, focusing on the development of hybrid materials for hydrogen production.

3) How have you developed your skills at CM?
When I joined CM, I applied my previous knowledge to understand and optimize the process based on supercritical water. At the same time, I developed basic engineering skills to contribute to the advancement of machinery designed in-house. Additionally, as the head of the internal laboratory and the R&D team, I gained experience in project management and leadership, to effectively achieve the company’s goals.

4) How would you describe your relationship with the team?
I strive to be a thoughtful leader who listens to people and encourages them to think critically to find the best solutions to challenges that arise. Unfortunately for them, I am very precise and meticulous, and I like work to be done methodically and with attention to detail. However, I believe this demanding approach is essential to achieving high-quality results and showcasing the capabilities of every team member.

5) What aspects of the Circular Materials project do you appreciate the most?
I believe Circular Materials’ highly innovative approach to tackling the enormous challenge of heavy metal recycling is unique in the European landscape. This makes the company ambitious and committed to continuous improvement, creating a dynamic, stimulating work environment filled with new challenges. It also offers extraordinary opportunities for personal and professional growth.
