In the meantime, here’s Samuele’s interview:
1) What are your responsibilities at Circular Materials?
I primarily focus on sustainability and regulations. Through LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) studies, I help quantify the environmental impact of the company’s processes and products, identifying strategies for continuous improvement and impact reduction. Additionally, I contribute to various regulatory approval processes, such as REACH and End of Waste, essential for commercializing the compounds obtained from our production process.
2) What was your educational background?
I earned a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science and Technology, with an experimental thesis on floating systems for water purification. I then completed my master’s in Sustainable Chemistry and Technologies for the Circular Economy at the University of Padua, focusing my thesis on decarbonization and biocoal production in the steel industry.
3) How have you developed your skills at CM?
An analytical and scientific approach is essential for tackling the multidisciplinary challenges I encounter. Ongoing discussions with experienced colleagues and consultants are allowing me to explore the interface between a tech startup and the public sector while deepening my understanding of more technology-focused topics.
4) How would you describe your relationship with the team?
I’m very happy with my relationship with the team, which thrives in a collaborative and stimulating environment. Our similar ages and backgrounds encourage a constant exchange of ideas and experiences. Open dialogue among colleagues allows us to tackle challenges constructively while valuing everyone’s perspectives and expertise.
5) What aspects of the Circular Materials project do you appreciate the most?
Circular Materials’ mission is what inspired me to join. We have the opportunity to contribute to a more sustainable future by transforming waste—currently seen as a disposal problem—into valuable resources that can re-enter the market. At the same time, we help mitigate the risks associated with a supply chain that is highly concentrated in critical areas of the world, where environmental concerns are often less prioritized.
