In the meantime, here’s Riccardo’s interview:
1) What are your responsibilities at Circular Materials?
My main activity is promoting our innovative technology in the European market and exploring new applications of our processes. My goal is to meet the needs of our partners and clients while contributing to the development of new Circular Materials Hubs across Europe. This role requires technical expertise, a deep understanding of business and market dynamics, public speaking, interpersonal and negotiation skills, and strategic vision. Being part of the leadership team allows me to bring the voice of the market into the company’s long-term planning.
2) What was your educational background?
I hold a degree in Materials Science and Engineering, having completed my studies in Padua and Berlin. Following graduation, I joined an engineering firm where I was responsible for the sizing of industrial plants. I then relocated to Norway, where I worked for a multinational Oil & Gas company as a platform chemical engineer, before transitioning into roles in business development and technology transfer. Six years ago, I returned to Italy, and for the last five years, I have been working with Circular Materials.
3) How have you developed your skills at CM?
A strong technical foundation has been crucial for fully understanding how our technology and processes work, allowing me to explore new applications in the industrial sectors of our clients and integrate our technology with theirs. My role allows me to study and learn about different technological verticals, from mining to refining, chemical synthesis to recycling, and industrial water treatment technologies. This understanding of material flow allows me to contribute to the recovery and valorization of resources that would otherwise be lost.
4) How would you describe your relationship with the team?
I have been with Circular Materials since its founding, and I know every colleague well, even outside the workplace. I always try to spark conversations about new developments and applications of our technology, transferring our customers’ needs to the technical team: teamwork is key to providing solutions to our partners and clients. I am always open to listening, and I find it extremely rewarding to be able to help my colleagues.
5) What aspects of the Circular Materials project do you appreciate the most?
Seeing a technology come to life on paper and then experiencing it firsthand in an advanced recycling center – the first in Italy – is not something that happens every day. I’ve been fortunate enough to witness the growth and consolidation of the Circular Materials Hub project and to help raise awareness of our technology both in Italy and abroad. Knowing that we can change the fate of certain waste materials that are currently not recycled is perfectly in line with my values.
