Last week, we proudly attended the inaugural International Circular Hydrometallurgy Symposium (ICHS2024), held from September 9 to 11 in Mechelen, Belgium. Representing Circular Materials at this important event was our R&D Specialist, Federico.
What is Circular Hydrometallurgy and Why is it Important?
Circular Hydrometallurgy marks a revolutionary shift in how traditional hydrometallurgical processes are carried out. By focusing on the design of energy-efficient flowsheets that use minimal reagents and produce virtually no waste, it champions sustainability. Central to this approach is the concept of circularity, where all reagents—such as acids, bases, reducing agents, and oxidizing agents—are regenerated and reused.
It’s all about achieving more with less, creating a sustainable future for the industry.
At Circular Materials, we have developed and patented green hydrometallurgical processes to recover critical and strategic raw materials from solid waste matrices, such as black mass derived from Li-ion battery shredding. Our dedication to the twelve principles of Circular Hydrometallurgy enables us to reduce waste, increase sustainability, and optimize production output.

Our Experience at ICHS2024
This symposium was a fantastic opportunity to engage with the latest green and circular innovations. Federico summarized the experience well: “The wide range of green and circular topics discussed at this symposium provided a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas and solutions for the exciting challenges that lie ahead in this fast-evolving field.”
We were delighted to connect, learn, and contribute to the growing dialogue around Circular Hydrometallurgy and its transformative impact on resource recovery and sustainability.
Thank you for joining us at ICHS2024!
