Meet the Team!
Today, in our #LifeAtCircularMaterials series, we’re featuring Federico!
Many of you may remember him from the #ICHS event earlier this September, but today you’ll get the chance to know him better. However, his kindness is something that can’t be fully expressed in just a few lines; it’s an experience you have to witness daily to appreciate truly!

In the meantime, here’s Federico’s interview:
1) What are your responsibilities at Circular Materials?
I focus on the recovery of critical metals from exhausted lithium batteries (black mass), both through research and development activities in the laboratory and in processing large volumes. Additionally, I manage the preparation and characterization of secondary products, coordinating the use of analytical tools.
2) What was your educational background?
I obtained a Master’s degree in Industrial Chemistry and later pursued a PhD in Materials Science. During my doctoral studies, I specialized in materials for lithium batteries and had the opportunity to interact with both the academic and industrial sectors.
3) How have you developed your skills at CM?
The technical skills, both instrumental and process-related, that I acquired during my education are the foundation of my daily activities at Circular Materials, where I continue to develop and improve them, adapting to the industrial context. The opportunity to collaborate with various partners and face new challenges is very stimulating and allows me to refine my problem-solving skills with a multidisciplinary approach.
4) How would you describe your relationship with the team?
The young and dynamic environment at Circular Materials fosters continuous and reciprocal exchange among team members, enabling us to tackle daily tasks from different perspectives and enrich each other in the process.
5) What aspects of the Circular Materials project do you appreciate the most?
Our project is ambitious but necessary to address the economic and social challenges of the energy and ecological transition. In particular, this goal played a decisive role in my decision to work at Circular Materials, where the recovery of critical raw materials that would otherwise be lost represents one of the key points.
